When a marriage is struggling, du'a is usually the first thing people reach for — and the place they find the most misleading advice. Wazifas promising results in seven days. Names to recite exactly a thousand times. Rituals to "make him love you again".
Below are the du'as that are actually authentic, verified by our scholar, along with what is established and what isn't.
The Short Answer
There is no single "marriage problems du'a" with a guaranteed result. But the Qur'an and Sunnah give couples authentic du'as for love, for reconciling hearts, and for relief from the worry that comes with conflict — and du'a works alongside effort to repair a marriage, not instead of it.
Authentic du'as for a struggling marriage
1. For love and comfort between spouses
"Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us an example for the righteous." (al-Furqan 25:74)
"Comfort to our eyes" means a spouse whose presence brings peace rather than dread. It is a du'a for the marriage you hope to have — and one of the few you can make together.
2. For reconciling hearts
"O Allah, reconcile between our hearts, set right what is between us, guide us to the ways of peace, deliver us from darkness into light, keep us away from indecencies, apparent and hidden, and bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our spouses and our offspring. Accept our repentance — You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful. Make us grateful for Your favour, praising it and accepting it, and complete it upon us."
Reported by Abu Dawud (969) from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud; authenticated by al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi.
This is the closest thing to a "marriage reconciliation du'a" in the Sunnah. Its opening words — allif bayna qulubina wa aslih dhata baynina — ask Allah to bring hearts back together and repair what has broken between two people.
3. For the worry that comes with it
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from weakness and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, and from being overwhelmed by debt and overpowered by people." (al-Bukhari 6369)
Marriage problems rarely arrive alone. They bring sleepless nights, exhaustion, money pressure and a feeling of being overpowered. This du'a covers all of it. For more on this, see du'as for anxiety.
Why marriage is a target
The Prophet ﷺ described Iblis sending out his troops, with the closest to him being those who cause the greatest turmoil. One comes and lists what he has done; Iblis says, "You have done nothing." Then another comes and says, "I did not leave him until I separated him from his wife" — and Iblis draws him close and says, "How excellent you are!" (Muslim 2813)
This is not a reason to believe your marriage is cursed. It's a reason to protect it — and the Sunnah gives a simple way:
"Do not make your houses graves. Shaytan flees from the house in which Surat al-Baqarah is recited." (Muslim 780)
Reciting al-Baqarah in your home — even in parts across a week — is one of the most practical things a couple can do.
The best times to make du'a
These times are established in authentic narrations:
- The last third of the night (al-Bukhari 1145)
- Between the adhan and the iqamah (Abu Dawud 521)
- While in sujud (Muslim 482)
- The last hour of Friday, before Maghrib (Abu Dawud 1048)
- While fasting, and when breaking the fast (al-Tirmidhi 3598)
How to make du'a
- Begin and end by praising Allah and sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ.
- Face the qiblah and raise your hands, where you can.
- Ask with certainty. Not "if it works", but trusting that Allah hears and answers in the way and time that is best.
- Speak plainly. Du'a doesn't need to be in Arabic or in rhyme. Tell Allah exactly what is happening in your marriage, in your own words.
Wazifas: what's authentic and what isn't
Calling on Allah by His name al-Wadud — the Loving — is good and praiseworthy. Ask Him, as al-Wadud, to put love back into your marriage.
What has no basis is the formula built around it: a fixed count like 1,000 times, a set number of days, a specific ritual, or a promise that it will make a particular person love you. Attaching numbers, conditions and guaranteed results to an act of worship needs evidence from the Qur'an or authentic Sunnah — and without it, scholars class it as an innovation (bid'ah).
A practical rule: if someone is selling you a wazifa, a timeline or a guaranteed outcome, walk away. Authentic du'a is free, and it's yours to make directly.
Can I make du'a for my spouse to love me?
Yes. Asking Allah to place love, affection and harmony in your spouse's heart is completely permissible. Love between spouses is something the Shariah praises.
If you're not yet married, you may ask Allah for a specific righteous person if it is good for your deen. But repeatedly trying to compel the heart of someone who has already said no goes against the etiquette of du'a. Ask for what is good, then accept what comes. Istikhara for marriage is the Sunnah for that decision.
Can I make du'a against a spouse who wrongs me?
It is permissible, in proportion to the wrong done to you.
"Allah does not like the public mention of evil, except by one who has been wronged." (an-Nisa 4:148)
And the Prophet ﷺ said: "Fear the du'a of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah." (al-Bukhari 1496)
But scholars point out that praying for your spouse's guidance, for your affairs to be set right, or choosing patience and forgiveness, carries greater reward.
And if you are being harmed, du'a is not meant to be your only step. Islam doesn't ask anyone to stay in harm. Speak to someone you trust, and speak to a scholar privately about your rights.
Du'a and effort, together
Du'a opens the door. Walking through it is still yours to do: the honest conversation, the apology, the boundary, the step back, the help from someone wise. The Qur'an lays out a method for repairing a marriage, and it begins long before divorce is mentioned.
If you've been making du'a for a long time and things aren't moving, that isn't a sign Allah isn't listening. Sometimes the answer is the help you haven't yet asked for. Here is what happens in an Islamic counselling session, if you've been wondering.
